Moving to Stratford [11 Apr 2007|07:13pm]

Hey there, Stratford!
I am very glad to have found this community since this summer (August) I'll be moving to Stratford for school related reasons from Toronto, and I am kind of hoping to learn a bit more about the city of Stratford before I move there. Like for example, where are the good areas for apartments? I am looking for something affordable and close to grocery stores, etc. Also, what is the public transit like? I don't have a car but I was thinking of bringing a bike. Is it easy to bike around the city? Here in Toronto it is so easy to get around with TTC so I may need to adjust to a slower paced transit system. What are the people like in general? Are they open and accepting to same sex relationships?
So that's it for now, thanks!

Welcome to the community!

So let's get right into it, then, shall we?

Things you should probably didn't want to know about StratfordCollapse )

Still here? Good. Honestly, that was shorter than I expected it to be. Those are the main things that irk me about Stratford. Otherwise, it's pretty much all good.

Okay, let's begin.

I'm not going to talk about how to get to Stratford, because that's what Mapquest is for. I'm not going to talk about hotels, or B&Bs, either- unless someone asks- because, well, I've never stayed in one here, so I don't really know.

So let's talk about coffee.

You'll probably notice that in Stratford, especially downtown, you can't go ten steps without finding somewhere to get a cup of coffee. Let's look at our main options, shall we?

International Grounds
Balzac's
Tango
Sputnik
The Buzz Stop
William's
Tim Horton's

The first four (and Tim Horton's) can be found downtown. Sputnik, Balzac's, Tango and Tim Horton's are found on Ontario street, the main street that turns into highway 7/8 as you head east out of town. William's Coffee Pub is also found on this street, but it's further down, past the Arden Park Hotel. There is also a William's going south on Erie out of town. There is also a Tim Horton's on Huron street, on Erie street at the edge of town, and another on Ontario street by the mall. The Buzz Stop is on York street, (behind Ontario street, next to the river).

Let's go.Collapse )

So, that's bout it for coffee. Of course, I have my biases and preferences. Everyone, pretty much, has a favourite place to grab a cuppa here. Go everyhwere, it's the only way to know for sure what you prefer.

That's it for tonight! See you later.
